Betsy Pownall has lived in Oregon since 1996, when she moved from Seattle to Eugene with her husband, Billy Balsom, and their two daughters, Sara and Ashley. She has a BS in Journalism, an M.Ed. in Education, and an M.A. in Professional Counseling. Betsy spent many years teaching creative writing and writing both freelance, advocacy journalism articles and short stories until she entered the mental health field. Since 2006, Betsy has been a mental health counselor, working in the community mental health sector until May, 2020 when she joined a local private clinic, where she currently practices.
Betsy believes in the power of knowledge and the importance of communication. To that end, she has truly enjoyed working with the City Club of Eugene Program Committee over the past year-and-a-half and is looking forward to becoming more involved with City Club of Eugene in the near future.
