City Club of Eugene
Board minutes 7/25/2024
Attendees: Andrew Kalloch (President), Thomas Hiura (President-elect), Kathryn Adair (Treasurer), Sandy Smalley (Secretary), Joey Bruckner, Alyssa Gilbert, Kelly Johnson, Ralph Pledger, Marti Ravits. We had short introductions as we welcome a new board member, Joey Bruckner.
No absences.
June minutes were approved.
President’s Report: Andrew
Discussion about moving Friday fora to the WOW Hall. The lighting isn’t good, but we may be able to rotate the chairs to allow more outside light to enter. It is ADA accessible, and there are technical resources available on site. Cons: parking is a concern, and is it a welcoming space for everyone? It was decided to defer our decision until Ralph and Jim Dotson can weight in on the ability to record our fora in that space. If they think it will work, we can vote via email on making the WOW Hall our temporary home. There are other possible places to meet in the future, but we are under time constraints now.
We have two budget proposals that we need to vote on tonight.
One: Should we shift our web services to 9 Planets? The cost to us would be $ 214/year.
Unanimously passed.
Two: Should we fund a special evening event at the Shedd Auditorium for $300?
Unanimously passed “if we can find a sponsor.”
Membership Committee: Ralph
Our Club renewals are down, and it is hard to get responses from members. Committee members are making calls, and Sharon Reed has printed out colorful reminder cards she hands out at Friday fora. Should we send a letter, or maybe switch to a calendar year renewal, rather than a rotating monthly renewal system? No action was taken on this.
Development Committee: Andrew and Kathryn
There is a Young Professionals event on September 12. It would be nice to have a City Club table at this.
Annual Campaign: Due to election year fundraising, our campaign may be overshadowed. Emails have generated a poor response in the past, while personal phone calls are often effective. Calling previous donors and interested parties is helpful. Kelly and Alyssa have offered to brainstorm ideas with a possible theme of “End the Year Strong.” Short video testimonials would be ideal.
Treasurer’s Report: Kathryn
The Club is solvent and has increased our cash on hand. The interns have been paid, so we currently have no personnel costs.
There is a Finance Committee meeting coming up.
Kathryn and Andrew are working with someone at the IRS to resolve our tax problems from 2022.
Kathryn is looking at different programs to record donations outside of Bloomerang.
Program Committee: Alyssa
We have multiple election fora coming up, including Representative Val Hoyle. This would be good to highlight in our development campaign.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Smalley, Secretary
