Autobiographical Statement, Don Doucette

Don Doucette retired in 2022 after a 49-year career in public education, beginning as a high school English teacher and ending after 30 years in leadership positions in community colleges across multiple states.  In 2023, he and his wife moved to Eugene at the request of their daughter and her husband to support their young family’s move, having determined it was the best place in the country to raise their three young daughters.

Strongly drawn to service, Don has been deeply involved in community service and civic affairs for decades.  He has served on dozens of nonprofit boards and worked on significant initiatives to reduce poverty, increase educational opportunity, expand healthcare and promote economic development both domestically and in the country of Haiti.

Don is a member of City Club and serves on its program committee. He volunteers for Food for Lane County, including as a Meals on Wheels driver. He coaches girls’ soccer for Kidsports. He serves on the Scholarship Review Committee for Lane Community College and is involved in efforts to promote kindness as a signature civic virtue of Eugene. He is a member of the Eugene Roundtable and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Eugene.
